Cork City Council has announced that parking enforcement will resume on Sundays from this weekend, coinciding with the busy Christmas shopping period. While on-street parking remains free on Sundays, drivers must ensure they comply with all parking regulations or face penalties.

The enforcement measures will begin on Sunday, 16 November and continue throughout the lead-up to Christmas, the council confirmed this morning.

Cork City Council emphasised that although no parking charges apply for on-street parking on Sundays, motorists are still required to park legally and follow all existing parking restrictions.

What Counts as Illegal Parking

The council provided examples of parking violations that will be enforced, including parking on footpaths, occupying disabled bays without a valid disabled person's parking permit, and stopping on double yellow lines or in areas displaying No Parking signage.

Vehicles parked in bus stops, bus lanes, or taxi ranks will also be subject to enforcement action. The council noted that the list of violations is not exhaustive, and all standard parking regulations remain in effect.

The return of Sunday enforcement reflects the increased footfall expected in Cork city centre as Christmas shopping intensifies over the coming weeks. The measure aims to ensure parking spaces remain accessible and that pedestrian areas and transport infrastructure are kept clear.

Motorists are advised to familiarise themselves with parking regulations and ensure they park legally, even when taking advantage of the free Sunday parking.
