Storm Dave: Cork County Council Issues Public Safety Advice Ahead of Status Yellow Wind Warning

Cork County Council has issued public safety advice ahead of a Status Yellow Wind Warning, in effect from 14:00 to 23:00 on Saturday, 4 April 2026.

Storm Dave is forecast to bring very strong southerly winds, veering westerly by the evening, with severe gusts and coastal gales expected across the county.

Met Éireann has warned of potential wave overtopping and flooding in low-lying and exposed coastal areas, driven by strong onshore westerly to southerly winds combined with high waves. High astronomical tides coinciding with storm surge and persistent onshore winds will further increase the risk of coastal flooding. A High Tide Advisory will come into effect on Saturday for Atlantic and southern coastal counties.

Road users are advised to be aware of the danger posed by high winds. Driving conditions will be hazardous, with falling trees possible. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and remain conscious of cyclists and pedestrians.

Members of the public are advised to stay high, stay dry and stay away from the coast. Property owners, residents and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their property.

Forecasted conditions may give rise to localised power outages. In the event of a disruption to the power supply, contact ESB Networks at 1800 372 999. For any disruption to the water supply, contact Irish Water at 1800 278 278.

Cork County Council can be contacted via its Emergency Out of Hours number at 0214800048. In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and request the Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Gardaí or Irish Coastguard as appropriate.

The council says it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on corkcoco.ie and its official social media channels.
