Status Yellow Rainfall Warning Issued for Cork and Four Other Counties
Localised flooding, river flooding and difficult travel conditions expected.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, and Wexford, with the alert coming into effect tomorrow afternoon and lasting until Tuesday morning.
The weather warning, issued at 10:34 this morning, warns of further heavy rain falling on already saturated ground. Combined with high river levels and high tides, this will lead to localised flooding, river flooding, and difficult travel conditions across the affected counties.
The Status Yellow rainfall warning will come into effect at 18:00 on Monday, 2 February and will remain in place until 12:00 on Tuesday, 3 February.
Prepare for potentially challenging conditions over the next two days, particularly on low-lying roads and areas prone to flooding. The combination of saturated ground from recent rainfall and high river levels means that additional rain is more likely to result in surface water accumulation and river overtopping.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution, allow extra time for journeys, and avoid driving through flooded areas where possible. The warning period coincides with high tides, which may exacerbate coastal and tidal flooding in vulnerable locations.
