  • Cork city centre will see widespread road closures, parking restrictions, and bus diversions on Tuesday, 17 March as the annual St Patrick's Day parade takes over the city's streets. Here is everything you need to know to plan your journey.

Black Ash Park & Ride

Black Ash Park & Ride will open from 08:30, with the last bus back to Black Ash due to leave the city centre at 20:30. Parking and a return trip for all passengers costs just €5.

Road Closures

Several key roads will close to all traffic except buses from 06:30 to 17:30, including Patrick's Street northbound (from just beyond Daunt Square outside Dealz to St Patrick's Bridge) and Drawbridge Street from the junction of Academy Street and Emmet Place. Perry Street will also close at the junction with Lavitt's Quay.

From 07:00 to 16:00, closures will be in place on Copley Street, Union Quay, Stable Lane, Connell Street, Lapp's Quay, and the west lane of Clontarf Street from Lower Oliver Plunkett Street to Terence McSwiney Quay.

Parnell Bridge southbound and the Anglesea Street west lane (the filter lane from Union Quay/Parnell Bridge) will close from 10:30 to 16:00.

Terence McSwiney Quay will close from 11:15 to 15:00.

From 11:15 to 17:30, a significant number of roads will close, including Parnell Bridge, Parnell Place, South Mall, Grand Parade, St Patrick's Bridge, Castle Street, Cornmarket Street, St Paul's Avenue, Merchants Quay, and Lavitt's Quay East (from Christy Ring Bridge to St Patrick's Bridge).

Lane restrictions will also apply from 11:00 on both Clontarf Bridge and Eglinton Street to restrict access onto Terence McSwiney Quay. Douglas Street will operate as a one-way system from 11:15 to 17:30, with the northern lane (inbound towards the city centre) closed at the junction of Summerhill South.

Roads will reopen when it is safe to do so, which may be in advance of the advertised times.

Street Closures

The following streets will close from 11:15 until after the parade: Parliament Street, Parliament Bridge, Washington Street (between South Main Street and Grand Parade), Parnell Place, Matthew Quay, Morrison's Quay, Half Moon Street, Academy Street, St Augustine Street, Paul Street, and Oliver Plunkett Street.

Traffic Diversions

Traffic on South Terrace and George's Quay will be diverted via Sullivan's Quay and Frenche's Quay to either Greenmount or onto Washington Street and Bachelor's Quay. Traffic on Lavitt's Quay will be diverted across Christy Ring Bridge. There will be no public traffic access on Lapp's Quay.

Parking Restrictions

Parking will be removed on Copley Street from Monday, 16 March at 07:00 until Tuesday, 17 March at 18:00.

From Monday at 14:00 until Tuesday at 18:00, parking will be removed on Connell Street, Anglesea Street, Lapp's Quay, and Anglesea Street adjacent to St Joachim and Ann's home.

From Monday at 20:00 until Tuesday at 17:30, parking will be removed on Patrick's Street, Emmet Place, Academy Street, South Mall, Grand Parade, Parnell Place, and Union Quay.

Bus Diversions

All northbound services that normally operate through St Patrick's Street will run on diversion from the start of service. All other services will operate via diverted routes between 10:00 and 18:00. South Mall, Patrick's Street, and Merchants Quay will not be served during these hours.

Temporary stops will be in place at Anglesea Street (Old Station Road to BreastCheck area), St Patrick's Quay (near Mary Elmes Bridge), and Sullivan's Quay (opposite Nano Nagle Bridge).

Passengers boarding Stage Carriage and Expressway services should present to the rear of the bus station for the duration of the parade.

Route 202: Southbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru and Clontarf Streets/Bridges, serving Clontarf Street stop. Northbound via Eglinton Street, Albert Quay, De Valera and Collins Bridges, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, Camden Quay.

Route 202A: Southbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru and Clontarf Streets/Bridges, serving Clontarf Street stop. Northbound via Eglinton Street, Albert Quay, De Valera and Collins Bridges, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, Camden Quay.

Route 203: Southbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via McCurtain Street, Brian Boru and Clontarf Bridges/Streets, Albert Quay, N27 to Old Station Road, left onto Anglesea Street, stopping opposite Crawford Bar. Northbound from start of service to 18:00 via Cotter Street, Copley Street, Old Station Road, straight onto N27 (passing Aldi), De Valera and Collins Bridges, left for Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, right onto Bridge Street.

Route 205: Eastbound from start of service to 18:00 via Grenville Place, Kyrle's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Christy Ring Bridge, Carroll's Quay, Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street. Westbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Horgan's Quay, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, Camden Quay, Christy Ring, Lavitt's Quay, Kyrle's Quay, Grattan Street, Washington Street.

Route 206: Northbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via normal route to South Terrace, then right to Cotter Street, right to Copley Street, right to Anglesea Street, setting down opposite Crawford Bar (between BreastCheck and Old Station Road junction). Southbound departing opposite Crawford Bar, then normal route.

Route 207: Northbound from start of service to 18:00 via normal route to South Terrace, then Cotter Street, Copley Street, Old Station Road, straight onto N27 (passing Aldi), De Valera and Collins Bridges, left for Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, right to Bridge Street. Southbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Clontarf Street and Bridge, left onto Albert Quay, right onto N27, straight to Old Station Road, left onto Anglesea Street, stopping opposite Crawford Bar.

Route 207A: From 10:00 to 18:00, the city-bound service will terminate at St Patrick's Quay. The Glenthorne-bound service will operate from Patrick's Quay, turning right onto Bridge Street.

Route 208: Eastbound from start of service to 18:00 via Grenville Place, Kyrle's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Christy Ring Bridge, Carroll's Quay, Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, then normal. Westbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Devonshire Street onto N20 towards Christy Ring Bridge, Lavitt's Quay, Kyrle's Quay, Grattan Street, Washington Street.

Route 212: Southbound from 10:00 to 18:00, normal route. Northbound via Eglinton Street, Collins and De Valera Bridges, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, right to Bridge Street.

Route 213: Outbound for the duration of the service timetable, departing at the stop between Old Station Road via Evergreen Road to South Link Slip (08:46 to 20:30). Inbound departing Black Ash via South Link and Old Station stop area (08:36 to 20:20).

Route 214: Eastbound from start of service to 18:00 via Sherman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay, Lancaster Quay, Mardyke Street, Mardyke, Grenville Place, Kyrle's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Christy Ring Bridge, Carroll's Quay, Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street. Westbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Horgan's Quay, Collins and De Valera Bridges, Albert Quay, N27 to Old Station Road, left onto Anglesea Street, stopping opposite Crawford Bar, South Terrace, Sullivan's Quay, Proby's Quay.

Route 31: From 10:00 to 18:00, the city-bound service will terminate at St Patrick's Quay. The Knockraha-bound service will operate from Patrick's Quay, turning right onto Bridge Street.

Route 215: Eastbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via N20 to Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru and Clontarf Bridges, Clontarf Street and Bridge, Albert Quay, N27 to Old Station Road, Anglesea Street, stopping opposite Crawford Bar. Northbound from start of service to 18:00 via normal route to South Terrace, then Cotter Street, Copley Street, Old Station Road, straight onto N27 (passing Aldi), De Valera and Collins Bridges, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, right onto Bridge Street.

Route 216: Westbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via South Terrace, George's Quay, Sullivan's Quay, Proby's Quay. Eastbound via Noonan Road, Green Street, Roselawn, St Patrick's Road, Summerhill South, Anglesea Street, South Terrace, Cotter Street, Copley Street, stopping at Old Station Road/BreastCheck stop area on Anglesea Street, then normal route.

Route 220: Westbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via South Terrace, George's Quay, Sullivan's Quay, Proby's Quay, Sherman Crawford Street, Wandesford Quay, Washington Street. Eastbound via Grenville Place, Kyrle's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Christy Ring Bridge, Carroll's Quay, Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru Street, N27, Old Station Road, Anglesea Street, stopping at Old Station Road/BreastCheck stop.

Route 220A: From 10:00 to 18:00, the service will operate from Anglesea Street towards Fountainstown. From Fountainstown, it will terminate at Anglesea Street.

Route 223: Northbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Cotter Street, Copley Street, Old Station Road, N27, stopping at Old Station Road/BreastCheck stop area, then normal route. Southbound departing opposite Crawford Bar (between BreastCheck and Old Station Road junction).

Route 225: Outbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via Clontarf Street, Albert Quay, and onto N27. Inbound via N27, turning right at the junction (passing Aldi), straight onto De Valera and Collins Bridges, left for Penrose Quay, Ship Street.

Route 226: Outbound from 10:00 to 18:00 via N27, Old Station Road, and BreastCheck stop on Anglesea Street. Inbound via Cotter Street, Copley Street, Old Station Road, straight onto N27 (passing Aldi), De Valera and Collins Bridges, Penrose Quay, and Ship Street.

Stage Carriage and Expressway Services

Westbound routes 40, 233, 236, 237, and 239 will operate via Lower Oliver Plunkett Street, Penrose Quay, Patrick's Quay, Camden Quay, Christy Ring, Lavitt's Quay, Kyrle's Quay, Grattan Street, then normal from Washington Street. Routes coming from the west (40, 233, 236, 237, 239) will operate via Mardyke, Grenville Place, Kyrle's Quay, Lavitt's Quay, Christy Ring Bridge, Carroll's Quay, Leitrim Street, Coburg Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru Bridge, Lower Oliver Plunkett Street, Parnell Place.

Route 51 inbound will operate via Leitrim Street, McCurtain Street, Brian Boru Street, Lower Oliver Plunkett Street, Parnell Place. Route 51 outbound will operate via Lower Oliver Plunkett Street and the North Quays.
