One side of St Patrick's Bridge will be closed to pedestrians from next Monday as ESB Networks carries out essential electricity cable repairs on the iconic Cork city centre crossing.

The western footpath on the upstream side of St Patrick's Bridge will be shut to the public from 6th October for approximately three weeks whilst ESB Networks completes the repair works.

Cork City Council has confirmed that pedestrians will be diverted onto the eastern footpath on the downstream side of the bridge during the works. Directional signage will be in place to guide people across the bridge safely.

The closure has been implemented in the interest of public safety whilst the electrical repairs are carried out. However, vehicular traffic will be unaffected throughout the three-week period, meaning drivers can continue to use the bridge as normal.

St Patrick's Bridge, which spans the River Lee in the heart of Cork city, connects the north and south sides of the city centre and is one of the busiest pedestrian routes in the area. The council is asking pedestrians to follow the signage on site and allow extra time for their journeys whilst the works are ongoing.

The repairs are expected to be completed by the end of October.
