Spring Clean for the City: CBA Announces Next 'Cleaning and Greening' Day
Business Leaders and Volunteers Encouraged to Join the Effort on Tuesday, 28 April.
Following the success of two 'Cleaning and Greening' events in Cork City in 2025, Cork Business Association (CBA) is rolling up its sleeves once again, this time targeting Oliver Plunkett Street from Caroline Street to the Grand Parade.
On Tuesday, 28 April, CBA members, local businesses, and volunteers will come together to refresh and revitalise the popular city centre street. The event, sponsored by and delivered in collaboration with Cork City Council, will stretch from the corner of Oliver Plunkett Street and Bean & Leaf to The Old Oak, with a variety of tasks planned including cleaning and painting. This follows last year's work on the other end of the street, where volunteers tackled graffiti and street cleaning while adding colour to utility boxes.
Volunteers are invited to meet at The Fountain Bar at 8:30am for coffee and light breakfast snacks before the day begins. Throughout the day, businesses along the street will provide additional refreshments, with Fast Al's offering a pizza lunch to all volunteers.
The event is part of a broader CBA campaign to improve one street at a time in Cork City, enhancing streetscapes, encouraging civic pride, and supporting the city's reputation as a welcoming, vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
McKechnie Cleaning Services will return as a key supporter, bringing power washers, window washers, and industrial sweepers to help deliver professional results. Dosco will also provide cleaning products, and volunteers will be equipped with gloves, brushes, litter pickers, and paint supplies. Snap Printing has joined the initiative this year, offering signage and display consultation, with tailored packages designed to help local businesses elevate their windows and facades.
Dave O'Brien, President of Cork Business Association:
"What started as a pilot project has grown into a powerful statement of civic pride. As we kick off our 2026 series on Oliver Plunkett Street, we aren't just cleaning surfaces; we are revitalising the heart of our city. Our previous successes proved that collective action yields visible results, and we are eager to bring that same energy this year."
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the CBA and Cork City Council, with the aim of creating a cleaner, safer, and more attractive city, one street at a time. A visual audit carried out on each street informs the work, highlighting issues from dirt and debris to outdated signage and neglected infrastructure.
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to volunteer and can register at corkbusiness.ie/events or by emailing info@corkbusiness.ie.
