Speeding Driver Has Car Seized After Multiple Violations in West Cork

A motorist faces court proceedings after being stopped for speeding whilst driving without insurance or a valid NCT certificate in West Cork this evening.

The Cork West Road Policing Unit, based in Crookstown, intercepted the driver earlier today during routine traffic enforcement operations.

Upon stopping the vehicle for speeding, officers discovered the motorist was driving without valid insurance cover and had failed to maintain a current National Car Test certificate. Both offences are serious breaches of road traffic legislation.

Gardaí seized the vehicle at the roadside under powers granted by the Road Traffic Act. The driver now faces multiple charges and will be required to appear before the courts to answer for the violations.

The incident highlights ongoing Garda efforts to detect and remove dangerous drivers from Cork's roads. Driving without insurance leaves motorists personally liable for any damage or injury caused in a collision, whilst an expired NCT certificate indicates a vehicle has not been inspected for roadworthiness.

An Garda Síochána Cork confirmed the enforcement action on social media this evening.

The Cork West Road Policing Unit regularly conducts speed checks and document verification stops across their operational area, which covers much of rural West Cork.
