Speed Limits Reduced to 60kph on N28 Carr's Hill for Year-Long Roadworks
Multiple sections affected until October 2026.
Motorists using the N28 Carr's Hill area will face significantly reduced speed limits from Wednesday as Cork City Council implements temporary traffic measures to facilitate major works on the M28 scheme.
The speed limit will drop from 100kph to 60kph across multiple sections of the N28 and connecting roads, remaining in effect for exactly one year from 15 October 2025 until 15 October 2026.
The changes, announced by Cork City Council this morning, will affect several key routes in the area. The N28 mainline in both northbound and southbound directions will be subject to the new limit, along with critical junction points where the route connects with local roads.
Specifically, the reduced speed limit will apply to the N28 mainline northbound stretch extending to the end of the Carrigaline Road R855 off slip, and the corresponding on slip from Carrigaline Road R855 joining the N28 mainline southbound. The Maryborough Hill merge lane area on the northbound carriageway will also see the temporary restriction.
On the southbound side, drivers will encounter the 60kph limit from the start of the Mount Oval off slip extending 35 metres north onto Ard Keale Road.
Cork City Council stated the measure aims to enhance safety for both construction workers and commuters as the major M28 scheme progresses. The council has thanked motorists in advance for their cooperation and urged drivers to exercise particular care when travelling through the affected area.
The N28 serves as a vital route connecting Cork city with Douglas, Rochestown, and onwards to Ringaskiddy, making it one of the busiest corridors in the county. Regular users should factor in potential delays and allow extra journey time during the works period.
Temporary speed limit signs will be erected along the affected stretches to ensure drivers are aware of the changes.
