St Anne's Church in Shandon will host a special Christmas market on 22nd November to raise vital funds for the conservation of Cork's iconic bell tower. The 'Giving Thanks' market promises unique, locally-made gifts from Shandon and Cork artists, with all proceeds supporting the preservation of the historic city landmark.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, 22nd November from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, has already attracted strong support from the local creative community. Organisers report that all vendor spaces have been filled following an enthusiastic response from talented artists, craftspeople and makers across Cork.
Shoppers will find high-quality, handcrafted Christmas gifts including jewellery, ceramics and other unique items, all whilst supporting the ongoing conservation work at one of Cork's most beloved landmarks. The market offers an opportunity to secure distinctive presents that cannot be found on any high street, all beneath the famous Shandon Bells.
Rev Maghan Farr, Priest in Charge, Shandon, explained the importance of the initiative:
"St Anne's Church is a cultural and historical anchor for Cork, and conservation is an ongoing, vital process. By focusing on our incredible local Shandon artists and makers, as well as others from across Cork, we hope to host a market that is not only a fantastic source of high-quality Christmas gifts but also a meaningful display of community support for our shared heritage."
The church, with its distinctive red and white tower visible across Cork city, requires continuous conservation work to preserve its historic fabric. The 'Giving Thanks' market represents a community-led effort to ensure this iconic landmark remains accessible for future generations.
The strong response from local makers reflects Cork's vibrant creative community and demonstrates the affection in which St Anne's is held across the city. With vendor spaces now filled, the organisers are confident the market will showcase the best of Cork craftsmanship whilst raising significant funds for this important conservation work.
