  • Popular East Cork beach reopens for swimming following successful water quality tests, ending nine-day prohibition notice.

Cork County Council has lifted the swimming prohibition at Shanagarry Ardnahich Beach after water quality testing confirmed the area has returned to 'Excellent' status. The announcement comes after council staff from the accredited water laboratory conducted sampling and testing over recent days.

The prohibition notice, which advised the public not to swim at the popular East Cork beach, had been in place since 20 August. The measure was lifted today in consultation with the HSE following the positive test results.

Shanagarry Ardnahich Beach is a well-known bathing spot in East Cork, regularly monitored by Cork County Council as part of their water quality programme. The return to 'Excellent' status means the beach meets the highest standards for bathing water quality.

The lifting of the notice comes as welcome news for locals and visitors alike, particularly as the late August weather continues to bring people to Cork's coastal areas. The beach is now fully open for swimming and recreational activities.

Cork County Council's accredited water laboratory regularly monitors bathing water quality at designated beaches throughout the county, ensuring public safety through systematic testing and immediate action when required.
