We can expect a largely settled week with high pressure dominating, bringing cloudy skies, patchy drizzle at times, and mild temperatures between 11°C and 16°C, according to Met Éireann's latest forecast.

Tonight will be dry and cloudy with some clear spells developing across the county. Isolated patches of mist and fog may form under any clear spells overnight, with lowest temperatures between 7°C and 10°C in light and variable winds.

Monday 13 October will start with mist and low cloud bringing patchy drizzle or light rain, most likely before dawn. Southeast winds will freshen through the morning, reaching 15 to 25 km/h with occasional gusts around 35 to 40 km/h by breakfast time. Temperatures will hover near 10°C to 12°C initially, with visibility reduced by mist but improving after sunrise.

The afternoon will remain mostly cloudy with patchy light rain and drizzle, though brighter spells may develop, particularly in western parts of the county. The drizzle should fade as conditions become largely dry, with temperatures climbing to between 14°C and 16°C. Winds will ease slightly but remain moderate from the east or southeast. By evening, cloud will persist with isolated drizzle possibly returning after dark as temperatures slip back to 11°C to 12°C.

Tuesday 14 October will bring calm conditions with any overnight mist and fog patches forming inland. The day will be dry with cloud and some sunny spells, with the best of the brightness expected in the southwest of the county. The odd spot of drizzle remains possible, but rainfall totals will be negligible. Highest temperatures will reach 12°C to 15°C in a light easterly or variable breeze. Mist and fog patches will form again overnight.

Wednesday 15 October will see very little change, with any mist and fog slowly clearing during the morning to give way to a mainly dry day with variable cloud. Mist and fog patches may linger in some areas, particularly in sheltered spots. Highest temperatures will range from 12°C to 15°C with very light winds.

Thursday 16 October will be mainly dry with sunny breaks at times, though confidence decreases slightly for this day. Conditions will turn a little breezier with light to moderate easterly winds, and there remains a possibility of brief drizzle developing, particularly later in the day. Highest temperatures will reach 13°C to 15°C.

Friday 17 October will become more unsettled with mostly cloudy skies and patchy drizzle, mainly affecting eastern and southern areas of the county. Light rain may arrive from the southeast with rainfall rates briefly reaching 1 to 2 mm per hour, though totals should remain low. Highest temperatures will be between 11°C and 14°C in light to moderate southeasterly winds, becoming fresh near western and southwestern coasts with gusts potentially reaching 40 km/h.

Looking ahead to Saturday 18 October, there remains uncertainty in the details, but current indications suggest it will be a breezy day with the chance of some rain spreading from the southwest. Highest temperatures will range from 12°C to 15°C in mostly moderate southeasterly winds, fresh to strong near western and southern coasts.

Motorists should allow extra time for journeys this week, particularly during misty mornings when roads may be damp. Conditions will turn breezier from Thursday into Friday with occasional rain, though the overall pattern remains settled thanks to high pressure centred near Ireland.

The forecast is based on analysis of both ECMWF and GFS weather models, which show good agreement on the settled pattern continuing through the week, with only minor differences in the timing and extent of any drizzle or light rain.
