Second Red Light Camera to Go Live at Farranfore Level Crossing
Travellers towards Killarney and beyond: a red light camera goes live at Farranfore Level Crossing, Co. Kerry, at 12pm today.
An Garda Síochána has confirmed that the second red light camera at a railway level crossing will commence operation at the Farranfore Level Crossing in Farranfore, Co. Kerry, at 12pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
An Garda Síochána supports its partners in transport safety. Gardaí work closely with Iarnród Éireann, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and local authorities, including Kerry County Council, to help ensure people's safety at the many railway level crossings located around the country.
The camera will assist Gardaí to help prevent red-light running and detect motorists speeding. An Garda Síochána, along with its road safety partner GoSafe, will process and prosecute any infringement by road users.
The cameras will record motorists using level crossings and automatically detect proceeding beyond a stop line when red lights are flashing at a railway level crossing. This is subject to a Fixed Charge Notice (FCN) of €80 and two (2) penalty points.
The cameras will also detect speeding, which is subject to a Fixed Charge Notice (FCN) of €160 and three (3) penalty points.
This camera is the second of up to six which will be used across a number of level crossings around the country.
Assistant Commissioner Ferry, Garda National Roads Policing Bureau:
"We welcome this next stage of co-operation with our partners in transport safety. The effective use of this kind of technology will greatly help us to keep rail and road users safe through enforcement’."
