Seabed Equipment to Be Deployed in Cork Harbour, with Unlit Recovery Buoys

Mariners have been advised that five seabed frames are due to be deployed in Cork Harbour on or about 7 October 2026. The Port of Cork has issued Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 2026, which says the frames must be avoided by as wide a margin as possible.

According to the notice, Techworks Marine will deploy five seabed trawl resistant frames under Maritime Usage Licence (MUL) MUL240048. The date is given as "on or about" 7 October 2026, so it is approximate.

The notice states that the sensors are Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) and will remain in place for approximately 35 days. Deployment will take place from a work vessel called MV James, which shall monitor channels 12 and 16 during deployment.

The notice states that the frames are trawl resistant but must be avoided by as wide a margin as possible. Vessels engaged in fishing should increase this margin as much as possible or avoid fishing in the area.

Each frame will be marked by a recovery buoy located outside the navigation channel. The notice states that these recovery buoys will be unlit.

The latitude, longitude and depth of each of the five frames are listed in the Port of Cork Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 2026, along with a map. The notice should be read in conjunction with Chart 1777 / 1773. It is issued by order of Harbour Master Nicholas Bourke, Port of Cork Company.
