Salmonella Alert: Lidl Recalls Irish Chicken Products Over Contamination Risk
Lidl is recalling two batches of Irish chicken products over Salmonella concerns. Check your freezer if you shop at Lidl.
Lidl Ireland is recalling two batches of chicken breast products due to the presence of Salmonella. Consumers are urged to check their freezers, as the affected products may have been frozen despite being past their use-by date.
The following products are affected:
- Free Range 100% Irish Chicken Breast Fillets (291g, approval number IE 803 EC, use-by 12 April, batch code L1023753)
- 100% Irish Diced Chicken Breast Fillets (550g, approval number IE 818 EC, use-by 13 April, no batch code listed).
Consumers who have either product in their freezer are advised not to eat it. Recall notices are being displayed at point-of-sale in Lidl stores.
Salmonella symptoms typically develop between 12 and 36 hours after infection, though onset can occur anywhere between 6 and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can occasionally be bloody. Other symptoms include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. The illness generally lasts between four and seven days.
The elderly, infants, and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of severe illness. In some cases, diarrhoea can be severe enough to require hospital admission.
Anyone who has consumed the affected products and is experiencing symptoms is advised to seek medical advice.
