RSA Beats Target as Driving Test Wait Times Drop to 13.5 Weeks
RSA cuts driving test wait to 13.5 weeks, beating target. September goal of 10 weeks now in sight for Cork learners.

National driving test waiting times have fallen to 13.5 weeks, beating the Road Safety Authority's mid-August target of 16 weeks and offering hope to thousands of learner drivers across Cork and Ireland.
The latest figures, released on 14 August 2025, show a dramatic improvement from the 27-week peak recorded at the end of April. Just two weeks ago, the average wait stood at 14.1 weeks, demonstrating the accelerating pace of progress.
The improvements follow the RSA's Driving Test Action Plan, launched in May to tackle unprecedented demand for tests. The authority is now on track to meet its Service Level Agreement target of 10 weeks by September.
The action plan introduced several key measures to increase capacity. These include a major recruitment drive for additional testers, enhanced scheduling systems to maximise available slots, and an expansion of testing resources at centres nationwide.
Brendan Walsh, Chief Operating Officer of the RSA:
"These results are a clear sign that our action plan is working. We've made significant strides in just a few months, thanks to the dedication of our staff and the support of the Department of Transport."
For Cork learners waiting for their test at centres in Wilton, Ballincollig, or other county locations, the reduced waiting times mean they could be behind the wheel sooner than expected.
The RSA is urging candidates to help maintain this momentum by cancelling their test appointments in advance if they cannot attend, allowing others to take those slots.
To maximise their chances of passing, test candidates should read all preparation materials thoroughly, double-check their test centre location, and arrive early on the day. Being fully prepared not only increases the likelihood of success but also helps maintain the efficiency of the testing system.
The authority has committed to closely monitoring demand patterns and adapting its strategy as needed to ensure continued improvements in test accessibility across the country.
With the traditional surge in test bookings expected as students return from summer holidays, the RSA's progress comes at a crucial time for learner drivers hoping to gain their full licences before autumn.
