Revenue Seizes Over €156,000 in Contraband Including Drugs, Weapons and Counterfeit Goods
Revenue seizes over €156,000 in contraband including drugs, weapons and counterfeit goods in Dublin, Midlands and Rosslare operations last week.
Revenue officers have seized contraband valued at more than €156,385 following intelligence-led operations across Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort during the week beginning 17 November.
The seizures, which resulted from risk profiling and the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Sam, included 4.6 kg of herbal cannabis worth an estimated €92,000 and 10.8 g of cocaine valued at over €755.
Officers also intercepted various other illicit drugs worth more than €1,675, including cannabis resin, tablets (Zopiclone, Alprazolam, Diazepam), edibles, cannabinoid vapes and liquid, psilocin drops, and cannabis grinders. The drug parcels originated in the USA, UK, France, Spain and India, and were destined for addresses nationwide.
Tobacco products valued at over €2,550 were seized, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of more than €1,910. The products included branded cigarettes and tobacco: Lucky Strike, HEETS, Lambert & Butler and Amber Leaf.
Revenue officers intercepted over 654.25 litres of alcohol, including wine, beer and spirits, with an estimated value of more than €8,930. This represents a potential exchequer loss of over €4,885.
Thirty-one weapons were seized during the operations, valued at almost €2,225. These included hand and rocket flares, an AGM M1 carbine spring power rifle with wood pattern, rifle frame assembly, clamping blocks, screw set and clamp ring tool, airsoft powered handguns, pistol magazines, and M4 magazine.
Officers also seized 173 counterfeit items with an estimated value of almost €48,245. The counterfeit goods, confirmed by rights holders to have infringed intellectual property rights, included items bearing designer labels such as Louis Vuitton, Nike, O'Neills, Chanel, Castore, Tiffany, Adidas, Umbro, New Balance, Tommy, Boss, Cortiez, Canada Goose, Ralph Lauren, Cartier and Armani.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing. The operations form part of Revenue's continued targeting of smuggling and shadow economy activity.
