Revenue Seizes Nearly €694,000 Worth of Contraband in Week-Long Operation

Revenue officers have seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €693,900 in operations across Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort during the week commencing 3 November 2025.

The detections, made through risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, included significant quantities of drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, counterfeit goods, and weapons.

The seizures included 11.65 kg of herbal cannabis valued at over €228,000, 513g of cannabis resin worth over €3,000, and various other illicit drugs valued at almost €5,000. The illicit drugs consisted of substances including Alprazolam, Zopiclone, Ketamine, MDMA, synthetic cannabinoids, and THC vapes.

Tobacco products worth over €1,700 were seized, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €1,300. The products included branded cigarettes such as Camel, Marlboro, John Player, and Richmond.

A substantial alcohol seizure saw Revenue officers seize over 79,550 litres of alcohol with an estimated value of almost €317,400, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €148,700. The alcohol consisted of wine, beer, and spirits.

The largest component of the alcohol seizure involved approximately 79,520 litres of beer seized in three separate consignments at Rosslare Europort. The beer arrived in three accompanied trailers that had disembarked ferries from France. Following routine profiling aimed at identifying alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax due, all three trailers and their contents were seized. Investigations into these seizures are ongoing.

Revenue officers also seized 175 counterfeit items with an estimated value of almost €138,800. The counterfeit goods, confirmed by rights holders to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights, included items from luxury brands such as Rolex, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and designer clothing brands including Canada Goose, North Face, and Stone Island.

Six weapons and accessories were also seized during the operations, consisting of airsoft guns, accessories, and smoke flares.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing. These seizures form part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
