Revenue Seize Contraband Worth Over €149,000 in Week-Long Operations

Customs officials have confiscated drugs, counterfeit goods, tobacco, alcohol, and weapon accessories in a series of operations across Dublin, Kilkenny, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort.

Revenue officers carried out the seizures during the week commencing 26 January 2026, with detections made through risk profiling and intelligence-led operations.

The drug seizures included 3.5kg of cannabis resin valued at over €21,550, 0.6kg of herbal cannabis worth more than €12,700, and 0.8kg of butane honey oil estimated at over €15,000. Officers also intercepted various other illicit substances, including cannabis oil, ecstasy, edibles, tablets, and cannabinoid vape liquids, with a combined value exceeding €1,975.

Detector dogs Sam and Ciara assisted in identifying the herbal cannabis and illicit drug parcels, which had originated in the USA, UK, Canada, Thailand, Spain, and Portugal. The packages were destined for addresses nationwide.

Counterfeit goods accounted for the largest single category by value. Officers seized 97 items worth an estimated €87,000, including fake Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Canada Goose, Nike, Chanel, Hermès, Moncler, Burberry, Ugg, and Tommy Hilfiger products. The items were confirmed by rights holders to have infringed intellectual property rights.

Tobacco products valued at over €8,290 were also seized, representing a potential exchequer loss of more than €6,270. The haul included brands such as Marlboro, Amber Leaf, Benson & Hedges, Golden Virginia, and unlabelled tobacco.

Officers intercepted over 229 litres of wine, beer, and spirits with an estimated value of €2,400, representing a potential exchequer loss exceeding €1,325.

Two Kusari weapon accessories were also confiscated during the operations.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing. These operations form part of Revenue's continued efforts to target smuggling and shadow economy activity.
