Rainfall Warning Issued for Cork and Five Other Counties
⚠️ Expect heavy rain, localised flooding and difficult travel conditions.
Met Éireann has issued a yellow rainfall warning for Cork and five other counties, with persistent and heavy rain expected to bring localised flooding and difficult travel conditions from midnight tonight until midday tomorrow.
The warning, issued at 19:28 this evening, covers Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow. It comes into effect at midnight tonight, Tuesday 4 November, and will remain in place until 12:00 tomorrow.
Persistent rain, heavy at times, is forecast throughout the warning period. Met Éireann has highlighted possible impacts including localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and poor visibility across the affected regions.
Cork residents can expect cloudy conditions for the remainder of today with outbreaks of rain, which may already be heavy and persistent in places, potentially leading to localised flooding. The county will experience mild and blustery conditions with fresh to strong and gusty southwest winds, though these will ease somewhat this evening.
Tonight, rain and drizzle will initially be confined to the south coast before pushing northwards again to many parts of the county later. The rain will turn heavy in places, with lowest temperatures remaining mild at 11 to 14 degrees. Southwest winds will become moderate southerly overnight but remain fresh along coastal areas.
Tomorrow will see continued cloudy conditions across Cork. Wet weather with outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, will persist before clearing to scattered showers later in the day. Patchy mist and fog on hills and along parts of the south coast will add to the challenging conditions. Highest temperatures will reach 14 to 16 degrees, with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds easing in the afternoon.
The outlook for the rest of the week remains unsettled, with frequent spells of wet and blustery weather expected. Conditions will remain relatively mild and frost-free throughout the period.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys, drive with caution, and be prepared for surface water on roads. Those in flood-prone areas should monitor conditions closely.
