Rail passengers travelling to and from Cork face bus transfers between Mallow and Cork this Saturday and Sunday, as Iarnród Éireann carries out engineering works on the line.

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2026, Cork-bound trains from Dublin Heuston will run only as far as Mallow, with a bus transfer completing the journey to Cork. The same arrangement applies to services from Tralee, which will operate by train to Mallow before passengers transfer to a bus for the final leg to Cork.

Iarnród Éireann says the works form part of its Cork Area Commuter Rail (CACR) signalling project, which includes gantry installation on the Mallow to Cork section.

As bus transfers are run by third-party operators, Iarnród Éireann cannot guarantee toilet facilities on board, and passengers are advised to use station facilities before travelling.

Anyone travelling this weekend is advised to check the Iarnród Éireann Journey Planner in advance and allow extra time for the bus transfer.
