Overnight Water Outage Planned for Douglas Road as Uisce Éireann Tackles Cork City Burst Mains

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair burst water mains across Cork City tonight, with residents in Douglas warned to expect supply disruptions between 10pm and 3am as essential repair works take place on Douglas Road.

The planned overnight outage follows several days of below freezing temperatures which have caused frozen pipes and burst water mains across the city. Areas currently experiencing loss of pressure or disrupted water supply include Bishopstown, Magazine Road and Douglas Road.

Tonight's Douglas Road Works

The overnight water outage on Douglas Road will run from 10pm tonight, Monday 5 January, until 3am on Tuesday 6 January. Traffic management will be in place during the repair works, which may result in supply disruptions across the wider Douglas area.

Bishopstown Residents Face Ongoing Disruption

Approximately 40 homes and businesses in Bishopstown remain without water supply following a recent burst water main affecting Uam Var Grove and surrounding areas. Bulk water tankers have been positioned in Uam Var Grove to provide alternative supplies.

Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water from the tankers and to boil all water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Operations Manager's Statement

James Goulding, Operations Manager, said:

"We know from previous winters that freezing conditions can cause disruption for homes and businesses. Our crews are ready to respond and are on the ground investigating bursts and carrying out essential repair works.

We recommend that people don't run taps continually as this is not an effective way of preventing frozen pipes and can cause other problems such as frozen drains. It also puts further pressure on water supplies that may already be challenged by the freezing conditions."

Advice for Residents
