Seven projects across Cork City and County are set to benefit from a €1,347,242 investment under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, with funding supporting upgrades to community centres, playgrounds, heritage sites and public spaces.

Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Jerry Buttimer, announced the funding today, which will be split between Cork County (€850,000 for three projects) and Cork City (€497,242 for four projects).

In Cork County, Passage West Community Centre will receive €300,000 towards energy efficiency upgrades, refurbishment works and essential plumbing, heating and electrical improvements. Rathcormac has secured €300,000 for a new village centre plaza and streetscape works at the Rathcormac Inn junction, while Youghal has been allocated €250,000 for conservation works to the historic Clock Gate Tower, including weather slating and window repairs.

Cork City projects include €159,352 for Kerry Pike to complete car park works at Ballycannon Park and Community Centre, install fencing and lighting for the ball wall and tennis court, and purchase a lawnmower. Blarney will receive €135,500 for upgrading the car park at O'Shea Park, home of Blarney FC, while Tower has been allocated €121,050 to upgrade and extend the local playground for children aged six to twelve. Upper Glanmire Community Centre will receive €81,340 for an accessible bathroom, radiator upgrades and landscaping.

Minister Buttimer said:

"This €1,347,242 investment will deliver real benefits on the ground, strengthening community infrastructure, enhancing public spaces and protecting local heritage across both Cork City and County. I'm proud that as a Cork Minister, we have received such strong applications from across the County, and I know the hard work will continue in these community groups to deliver high quality projects."
