Night-Time N40 Closures Between Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road
The N40 closes overnight between Sarsfield Road and Bandon Road from 18 to 21 August, with both directions affected on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Drivers using the N40 South Ring Road face a run of overnight closures this week, with both carriageways shutting between Junction 4 Sarsfield Road and Junction 3 Bandon Road on overlapping schedules from Tuesday 18 August 2026.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland has confirmed that the westbound carriageway will close from Junction 4 Sarsfield Road to Junction 3 Bandon Road between 8pm and 5am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, 18 to 20 August 2026. Traffic is being diverted via Junction 4.
The eastbound closure runs a night behind and starts an hour later. The N40 eastbound will close from Junction 3 Bandon Road to Junction 4 Sarsfield Road between 9pm and 5am on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, 19 to 21 August 2026, with traffic diverted via Junction 3.
That leaves two nights, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 August, when both directions of this stretch will be closed from 9pm until 5am. The first closure begins at 8pm on Tuesday 18 August, and the last begins at 9pm on Friday 21 August.
The affected stretch sits on the western side of the ring road, linking the Sarsfield Road interchange with the Bandon Road Roundabout, where the N40 meets the N71.
TII has not stated a reason for the works. Motorists looking for further detail are directed to Egis Lagan Services, which operates and maintains the N40 and N25 in the Cork city area under a maintenance and renewals contract for TII. Live conditions are available on the TII traffic information service.
Anyone travelling late on these nights should follow the diversion routes and allow extra time, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday when both carriageways are affected.
