The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) have launched a comprehensive plain English guide designed to demystify online security for Irish citizens. The resource tackles the growing challenge of making cyber security accessible to everyone, regardless of their technical background.

With digital services becoming increasingly central to daily life, from banking to shopping, the guide addresses a critical need for clear, understandable security advice. The publication uses plain language principles including short sentences, simple vocabulary, and active voice to ensure accessibility across all literacy levels.

The guide covers essential topics such as creating strong passwords and understanding new security developments like passkeys. Where technical terms are unavoidable, a comprehensive glossary provides easy-to-understand explanations.

Colleen Dube, CEO of NALA:

"We are delighted to be asked by the NCSC to provide a Plain English version of this very timely and necessary guide. With so many services being delivered digitally and cybercrime and fraud on the rise, guides like this are essential to keep all our information safe and secure."

The collaboration between the two organisations reflects the growing recognition that cyber security education must be accessible to all citizens, not just technology experts.

Richard Browne, Director of NCSC:

"In today's world where everyone carries out so much of their life online, it's essential that we all have the tools to protect our personal information. This guide makes essential information accessible to everyone. By simplifying complex language, the guide provides the public with easy-to-follow steps to protect their personal information."

The guide is available in both English and Irish, demonstrating a commitment to reaching the broadest possible audience. Citizens can access additional resources and guidance documents through the NCSC website.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when cyber threats and digital fraud continue to evolve, making personal online security more important than ever for Irish families and businesses.
