New Glanmire Greenway to Connect Hazelwood Road and Dunkettle Road

Work has begun on a new pedestrian and cycleway that will link key areas of Glanmire, providing a safe route for walkers and cyclists through the growing community.

The Glanmire Greenway will create a dedicated pathway connecting Hazelwood Road to Dunkettle Road, running through the former John Barleycorn Hotel site, John O'Callaghan Park, and lands at Glyntown adjacent to Riverstown FC football pitches. The route is designed to link important local infrastructure including schools and residential developments in the area.

Construction of two new pedestrian and cycle bridges will begin in January 2026 as part of the project. When bridge works commence, part of John O'Callaghan Park will need to close temporarily in the interest of public safety.

However, families will be pleased to know that the playground at the Park will remain open throughout the works, ensuring children can continue to use the popular facility.

The Glanmire Noticeboard and Glanmire Area Community Association have confirmed that updates will be posted on social media in advance of the confirmed start date for the bridge installation works.

The new greenway represents a significant investment in active travel infrastructure for the Glanmire area, providing safer pedestrian and cycling connections across the community.
