N71 At Halfway Closed Today For West Cork Motorcycle Club Drag Race
N71 at Halfway closed today, Sunday 14 June, 7am to 6.30pm for the West Cork Motorcycle Club drag race. Diversion via Halfway village, take care on approach.
A section of the N71 at Halfway is closed today, Sunday 14 June 2026, from 7am to 6.30pm, while the West Cork Motorcycle Club holds its annual drag race on the road. A diversion is in place through Halfway village, and motorists are asked to take care on approach.
The closure, advertised by Cork County Council under reference TRC-91-2026, is in place on the N71 from Halfway Roundabout to the turn-off for Cork Airport (R613), from 7am to 6.30pm, to facilitate the drag race event.
Westbound traffic on the N71 is diverted onto the slip road (L-2264) and the R613, then through Halfway village, rejoining the N71 at Halfway Roundabout. Eastbound traffic is diverted at Halfway Roundabout and routed through Halfway village before rejoining the N71. Drivers heading north on the R607 who need to reach locations east of the closed section are also directed through Halfway village.
The closure facilitates the West Cork Motorcycle Club drag race, a long-running fixture at the Halfway, where the event has been staged since 2009. The club describes it as the only drag race in Europe run on a public road.
Anyone travelling between Cork and West Cork on the N71, including those joining or leaving at the Cork Airport turn-off (R613), should allow extra time today and follow the diversion.
