N40 Kinsale Road Roundabout Night Works Begin Tuesday

Major resurfacing works at the N40 Junction 6 (Kinsale Road Roundabout) will commence on Tuesday evening, 5 August, with night-time closures scheduled to continue for approximately five weeks.

The roadworks will be carried out between 20:30 and 06:00 from Monday through Saturday, affecting one of Cork's busiest interchanges. While local diversions will be clearly signposted to guide motorists safely around the work site, the timing has been specifically chosen to minimise disruption to daytime traffic flows.

Cork Airport has issued an advisory for passengers travelling during the affected hours, urging them to allow additional time for their journeys. The junction serves as a critical access point for airport traffic, as well as vehicles travelling to and from Kinsale, Togher, and Frankfield.

All lanes will be reinstated each morning before the peak traffic period, ensuring that daytime commuters and business traffic will not face delays. This approach reflects careful planning to balance the need for essential maintenance with the junction's role as a vital transport hub.

The Kinsale Road Roundabout handles thousands of vehicles daily, connecting the N40 South Ring Road with the N27 route to Cork Airport and Kinsale. The resurfacing works are part of ongoing maintenance to ensure the junction continues to operate safely and efficiently.

Motorists who regularly use the junction during evening and night-time hours should familiarise themselves with the diversion routes, which will be clearly marked throughout the works period. The five-week programme represents a significant investment in Cork's road infrastructure.

The timing of the works, avoiding Sunday nights and concluding before 06:00 each morning, demonstrates consideration for both weekend leisure traffic and early morning commuters. However, those with early morning flights or late-night returns from Cork Airport should factor in potential delays when planning their journeys.
