N40 Eastbound Closure Tonight Between Douglas and Bloomfield Junctions
Plan extra time for tomorrow morning.

Motorists face a seven-hour closure on the N40 eastbound tonight as Transport Infrastructure Ireland conducts essential roadworks between Junction 7 Douglas and Junction 9 Bloomfield.
The eastbound carriageway will close from 11pm tonight (3 September) until 6am, with the closure point beginning at Junction 7 Douglas. Traffic will be diverted through Douglas village and along the Rochestown Road before rejoining the N40 at Junction 9 Bloomfield.
The overnight timing suggests TII is working to minimise disruption during the quieter hours, though early morning commuters should factor in extra journey time. The diversion route through Douglas will likely see increased traffic volume during the closure period.
The closure affects only eastbound traffic, with the westbound carriageway remaining open as normal. TII has not specified the nature of the roadworks, though such overnight closures typically involve resurfacing or infrastructure maintenance that requires complete road access.
Regular N40 users will be familiar with TII's preference for overnight roadworks on this busy stretch, which carries much of Cork's commuter and commercial traffic between the western suburbs and the city centre.
