Multiple Brands of Desiccated Coconut Recalled Over Plastic Contamination Risk
Check batch codes before use.
Several popular brands of desiccated coconut sold across Ireland are being recalled due to the possible presence of plastic pieces, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland has announced.
The Category 1 alert, issued on Thursday, 16 October 2025, affects specific batches of five brands imported from Indonesia. The recall includes products sold in Dunnes Stores as well as foodservice suppliers, with batch codes dating from June to August 2026.
The affected products are PT Royal Coconut Desiccated Coconut (25kg), Gem Desiccated Coconut (250g and 1kg), Dunnes Stores Baking At Home Desiccated Coconut (250g), The Pantry Desiccated Coconut (200g), and Sysco Classic Desiccated Coconut (1kg). Full batch details are available on the FSAI website.
Retailers have been instructed to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point of sale. Wholesalers and distributors must contact affected customers immediately to arrange withdrawal of the products.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected batches are advised not to consume the product. The recall notices will be displayed in stores where the products were sold.
The FSAI has classified this as a Category 1 alert, requiring immediate action. Distribution details are being provided to relevant official agencies, and caterers have been specifically warned not to use the implicated batches.
Anyone with concerns about the recall can check batch codes against their purchases using the best before dates listed in the official notice. The affected batches all originate from Indonesia and carry best before dates between June and August 2026.
