MTU Staff Oscar Event Raises Over €43,000 for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland

Munster Technological University's Staff Social Charity Committee has donated more than €43,000 to Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland (AADI) following their glamorous MTU Oscars Charity Event held on 7th March 2025 at Cork's Rochestown Park Hotel.

The spectacular evening united staff from all six MTU campuses across Cork and Kerry for a night of entertainment and fundraising. Six short films were produced for the event, with university staff taking on acting roles in adaptations of beloved classics including "Calendar Girls", "Misery", "The Snapper", "Sister Act", "Forrest Gump", and "Father Ted".

Ann O'Halloran, Chairperson of the MTU Oscars Charity Committee, expressed her delight at the event's success:

"MTU Oscars was months in the making, but worth it all, and a privilege to be part of this amazing Committee. We were blown away by the staff from every corner of MTU that got involved, with the support from local businesses and the well wishes received, the length and breadth of the country."

The substantial funds raised will support AADI in its crucial work training and placing assistance dogs with families of autistic children throughout Ireland. The charity was selected through a university-wide vote.

David McCarthy, Head of Fundraising and Communications at AADI, shared his appreciation:

"We are absolutely blown away by the generosity shown through MTU's Staff Oscars event, which raised over €43,000 in support of Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. This phenomenal contribution will directly help us train and place more life-changing assistance dogs with families of autistic children across Ireland."

MTU President Professor Maggie Cusack commented on the event's significance:

"This fundraising event brought together staff from across our six campuses for a very funny and enjoyable event while raising money for an important charity. As a university, we are committed to supporting efforts that enhance our special community spirit at MTU."

The committee extended special thanks to main sponsor Vision Contracting Ltd, along with movie sponsors, award sponsors, and programme sponsors. Kevin Rowe Productions provided filming expertise, with coaches Donal and Tom and film crew Dave and Stephen bringing the productions to life. The judging panel of KC, Ciaran Birmingham, and Esther McCarthy was also acknowledged.

A highlight of the evening was the presence of David from AADI and his assistance dog Willis, providing attendees with a tangible connection to the charity's important work.
