Morrison's Island Works: Road Closure and Traffic Changes from 1 December

Cork City Council has announced that work on the Morrison's Island Public Realm and Flood Defence Scheme will start on Father Mathew Quay and Morrison's Quay from Monday, 1 December 2025. A road closure will be in place between Father Mathew Street and Catherine Street.

The works will affect the section between Father Mathew Street, near RTÉ and Holy Trinity Church, and Catherine Street at Cork College of FET.

To keep traffic moving during the closure, Father Mathew Quay from Holy Trinity Church to Parliament Bridge will reopen as one-way westbound. Motorists can access this section via a right turn from South Mall onto Father Mathew Street.

There will be no right turn from Parliament Bridge onto Father Mathew Quay. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.

Disabled parking bays have been temporarily relocated to Morrison's Quay directly in front of Cork College of FET.

The ongoing scheme includes upgraded streetscapes, a new riverside walkway, a plaza at the east end of South Mall, and a redesigned Trinity Bridge.

Cork City Council thanked the public for their patience during the improvement works.
