Met Éireann Updates Flood Advisory for Cork and 25 Other Counties
Met Éireann updates flood advisory for Cork and 25 counties through 9th February amid persistent heavy rainfall and saturated ground conditions.
Met Éireann has updated its nationwide flood advisory this afternoon, warning that heavy and persistent rainfall will continue through this week across Cork and much of Ireland.
The national weather service issued the advisory on Sunday and updated it today, Tuesday 3rd February at 4:06pm, extending the warning period until Monday 9th February.
The advisory affects 26 counties including Cork, with particular concern for southern and eastern regions where rainfall is expected to be heaviest. Met Éireann warns that flooding is likely due to a combination of already saturated ground, high river levels and high tides.
Cork residents are advised to monitor local conditions closely as the week progresses. The persistent nature of the rainfall, combined with ground that has no capacity to absorb additional water, creates conditions where even moderate rain can lead to surface flooding and river overflow.
The affected counties are Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.
Met Éireann strongly advises the public to closely monitor local weather conditions via www.met.ie and river gauge data at www.waterlevel.ie. These resources provide real-time information on developing conditions in your area.
