Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Cork and ten other counties, with very windy conditions and strong, gusty southwest winds expected from Sunday afternoon through to Monday midnight.
The national meteorological service issued the warning at 10:33 this morning (Saturday 10 January), with the alert coming into effect at 4pm tomorrow (Sunday 11 January) and remaining in place until 00:00 on Monday 12 January.
Cork is among the affected counties, alongside Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow.
Met Éireann warns of several potential impacts during the warning period, including some wave overtopping along coastal areas, loose objects being displaced, and some fallen trees and branches. Difficult travelling conditions are also expected across the affected regions.
Residents across Cork are advised to secure loose items outdoors, avoid parking under trees where possible, and allow extra time for journeys during the warning period. Those planning coastal activities should exercise particular caution due to the risk of wave overtopping.
The warning expires at on Monday 12 January at 00:00.
