Met Éireann Issues Yellow Thunderstorm Warning for Cork and Five Other Counties

Cork residents are being advised to prepare for heavy and thundery rain this evening, as Met Éireann has issued a Yellow weather warning affecting six counties across the south and southeast.

The national weather service issued the thunderstorm warning at 14:07 today, Friday 31 October 2025, with the alert coming into effect at 19:00 this evening and remaining in place until 22:00 tonight.

The warning covers Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford, and Wicklow, with Met Éireann forecasting rain accompanied by heavy and thundery downpours throughout the three-hour period.

Motorists and road users are being warned to expect difficult travelling conditions, with spot flooding likely to affect routes across the county. The timing of the warning coincides with the evening rush hour, potentially causing disruption to commuters heading home.

Cork Safety Alerts will continue to monitor conditions across the county and provide real-time updates on any flooding incidents or road closures as they occur. Members of the public experiencing localised flooding or hazardous road conditions are encouraged to report incidents via the Cork Safety Alerts freephone line at 1800 938 106 or through social media channels.

Drivers are advised to reduce speed, allow extra time for journeys, and avoid driving through standing water where possible. Homeowners in areas prone to flooding should take precautions to protect property and ensure drains and gullies are clear.

The warning expires at 22:00 tonight, though conditions should be monitored closely as heavy rainfall can cause issues even after the official warning period ends.
