Met Éireann Issues Yellow Rainfall Warning for Cork
Yellow Rainfall Warning for Cork and 9 counties from 6 PM Saturday to midnight Monday. Heavy rain on saturated ground. Flooding and poor visibility expected.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rainfall Warning for Cork and nine other counties, with spells of heavy rain set to hit already saturated ground from Saturday evening through to Monday morning.
The national weather service issued the warning at 13:41 today (Friday 12th December), with the alert coming into effect at 6 PM tomorrow evening and remaining in place until midnight on Monday 15th December.
The affected counties are Clare, Cork, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo, covering much of the west and southwest of Ireland.
According to Met Éireann's warning, the heavy rainfall falling on ground that is already saturated is likely to cause several impacts across the affected regions. These include river and surface water flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and poor visibility on roads.
The timing of the warning, beginning on Saturday evening, means motorists and residents should prepare for potentially challenging conditions throughout the weekend. Those in flood-prone areas should take particular note, as the saturated ground conditions increase the risk of both river and surface water flooding.
Local authorities and emergency services will be monitoring the situation closely as the weather system moves through the affected counties over the coming days.
