Met Éireann Issues Yellow Rainfall Warning for Cork

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning for Cork and Kerry, with persistent and heavy rain expected to bring localised flooding and difficult travel conditions from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

The weather warning comes into effect at 2pm on Sunday, 30 November, and remains in place until 9am on Monday, 1 December. The national forecaster warns that persistent rain, heavy at times, may lead to localised flooding and create challenging conditions for motorists across both counties.

Sunday will start predominantly dry and bright with isolated showers, but cloud will build from the west as the day progresses. Rain is expected to arrive through the afternoon as southerly winds increase to fresh to strong speeds. Afternoon temperatures will reach between 5 and 8 degrees.

The warning was issued at 10.23am on Saturday, 29 November, giving residents advance notice to prepare for the deteriorating conditions.

Today's weather across Cork will see rain and drizzle clearing southwards by midday, leaving a largely dry day with plenty of sunshine and just the odd shower. Highest temperatures will reach between 6 and 9 degrees in moderate north to northwest winds.

Tonight will be cold and mostly clear with some showers. Frost and possibly some ice will form in places, with lowest temperatures dropping to between minus 2 and plus 2 degrees. Light westerly or variable breezes will allow mist and fog patches to develop.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the warning period and allow extra time for journeys. Those in areas prone to flooding should monitor conditions closely and take necessary precautions.
