Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for very warm or hot weather this week and next, with heatwave conditions and possible tropical nights this weekend.

Met Éireann has issued a weather advisory for a prolonged spell of very warm or hot weather this week, lasting into next week, with heatwave conditions expected.

Met Éireann:

"A prolonged spell of very warm or hot weather will occur this week lasting into next week with heat wave conditions expected. Daytime maxima will widely exceed 25 degrees Celsius with values climbing to the high 20s or even low 30s in places from Friday. The UV Index is expected to be high to very high. Warm and humid nights will occur with minima of 15 degrees or higher. Possible tropical nights may occur in places this weekend. There is also the chance of some thunderstorms later this week."

The public is being asked to check the met.ie website and app for updates to forecasts and warnings, as well as www.watersafety.ie and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Potential impacts include:

  1. Water safety issues due to increased use of waterways, lakes and beaches
  2. Uncomfortable sleeping conditions
  3. Heat stress, especially for the vulnerable and elderly
  4. Potential disruption to public transport
  5. Animal welfare issues
  6. Potential drought concerns
  7. Potential wildfires and forest fires

The advisory is valid from 01:00 on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 to 14:30 on Thursday, 9 July 2026. It was issued at 15:17 on Monday, 6 July 2026.
