Met Éireann Issues Nationwide Advisory as Heavy Rainfall Continues Through Week
Met Éireann issues nationwide advisory for week ahead as heavy rain continues on saturated ground with high river levels and tides expected.
Met Éireann has issued a nationwide flood advisory warning of persistent heavy rainfall through the week beginning Monday, 2nd February, with particular concern for southern and eastern coastal counties including Cork.
The national forecaster warns that rain will fall on already saturated ground where river levels remain high, with high tides expected throughout the week leading to further flooding along rivers and in coastal areas.
The advisory, issued at 11:03 this morning and valid until midnight on Monday, 9th February, affects all 26 counties including Cork, Kerry, Waterford, and Limerick across Munster.
Met Éireann is strongly advising the public to closely monitor local weather conditions via www.met.ie and river gauge data at www.waterlevel.ie.
Cork residents should remain vigilant for localised flooding, particularly in areas that experienced flooding during recent rainfall events. The combination of saturated ground conditions, elevated river levels, and predicted high tides creates heightened flood risk across the county.
The advisory emphasises that spells of heavy and persistent rainfall will continue throughout the week, with southern and eastern coastal areas facing the greatest impact.
Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution on all routes, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding, and to allow extra time for essential journeys.
