Met Éireann Issues Double Yellow Weather Warning for Cork

Met Éireann has issued two separate yellow weather warnings affecting Cork, with heavy rainfall and strong winds set to create challenging conditions throughout Thursday.

Cork faces a double weather threat on Thursday, 30 October, as both a yellow rainfall warning and a yellow wind warning take effect simultaneously from 11:00 AM.

The rainfall warning, issued at 2:23 PM today, affects Cork and Kerry and remains in place until 8:00 PM on Thursday. Spells of heavy rain are expected to cause localised flooding, difficult travel conditions, and poor visibility across both counties.

Just three minutes later, at 2:26 PM, Met Éireann issued a separate yellow wind warning for a wider area including Cork, Kerry, Waterford, and Wexford. Very strong and gusty southerly winds with coastal gales will persist until 11:00 PM on Thursday evening, three hours beyond the rainfall warning.

The wind warning brings additional concerns: some fallen trees, wave overtopping in coastal areas, and further difficult travel conditions. Combined with heavy rain, Cork residents can expect particularly challenging conditions throughout the day.

The simultaneous warnings mean Cork will experience the worst of both weather systems between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, when heavy rain and strong winds coincide. Even after the rainfall eases at 8:00 PM, gusty conditions will continue until 11:00 PM.

Motorists should allow extra time for journeys, particularly during the afternoon commute. Coastal communities should be aware of potential wave overtopping, while the risk of fallen trees adds an extra hazard on roads across the county.

Cork Safety Alerts will monitor conditions throughout Thursday and provide updates on any flooding, fallen trees, or travel disruptions as they develop.
