Met Éireann has issued two consecutive Yellow Low Temperature/Ice warnings for Cork and 16 other counties, with severe frost and treacherous conditions forecast through Monday morning.
The current warning, which began at 6pm yesterday evening, remains in effect until 11am this morning. A second warning will come into force at 5pm this evening and continue until 11am tomorrow.
Both warnings, updated by Met Éireann at 08:47 this morning, forecast sharp or severe frost and icy stretches across affected areas, with black ice expected locally. The forecaster warns of treacherous travel conditions throughout the warning periods.
The first warning predicts temperatures falling to between -2 and -4 degrees in many areas. Tonight's warning forecasts slightly colder conditions, with temperatures dropping to between -2 and -5 degrees generally.
The warnings affect Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow.
Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly on untreated surfaces where black ice may form. Allow extra time for journeys and reduce speeds in icy conditions.
