Marymount University Hospital & Hospice has teamed up with An Garda Síochána to launch a new crime prevention programme designed to keep patients, staff and visitors safe.

The Hospital Watch initiative, unveiled today, is modelled on the well-established Neighbourhood Watch scheme but tailored specifically for the healthcare setting. The programme brings together gardaí from Togher, hospital staff, patients, residents and visitors in a collaborative effort to prevent crime and reduce fear within the facility.

Dr Sarah McCloskey, Chief Executive Officer of Marymount University Hospital & Hospice, said:

"We are delighted today to launch Hospital Watch, working in partnership with An Garda Síochána to support us in preventing crime. At Marymount we are deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our staff, volunteers, patients, residents, and families. We are dedicated to the provision of optimum care, and safety is fundamental to this."

Dr McCloskey added that the programme has already proven beneficial and thanked gardaí for their commitment to the initiative.

Superintendent Finbarr O'Sullivan, Community Engagement South (Togher), Cork City, An Garda Síochána, said:

"Hospital Watch operates as a partnership between An Garda Síochána in Togher Cork City, Marymount University Hospital & Hospice, staff, patients, and visitors, with the goal of preventing crime within the hospital setting. The initiative embodies partnership, problem solving, engagement, and crime prevention, ensuring that hospital staff, patients, and visitors remain safe."

The programme aims to prevent crime, promote awareness among staff and service users, and facilitate ongoing engagement between gardaí and the hospital community.
