Marina Park Gets Major Summer Makeover with New Playground and Fitness Facilities

Marina Park has received a comprehensive upgrade this summer, featuring a brand new playground with wheelchair accessibility, adult fitness equipment, and extensive landscaping improvements that have transformed one of Cork's most popular recreational spaces.

The centrepiece of the improvements is a state-of-the-art playground featuring climbing frames, a log trail, net trail, swings, and a swing basket alongside a teepee and tunnel. Crucially for inclusivity, a wheelchair accessible swing has been installed, ensuring all children can enjoy the facilities.

The beloved "snakes and ladders" slides on the greenway have received particular attention, with new softer surfacing installed and improved facilities making it easier for young adventurers to climb back up for another go. These slides have long been a favourite with Cork families visiting the park.

Adults haven't been forgotten in the upgrade plans. New multi-use gym equipment has been positioned alongside the playground, allowing parents to exercise whilst keeping an eye on their children. The addition of new seating, picnic benches, and sun loungers provides plenty of space for families to relax and enjoy the riverside location.

The landscaping work has been equally impressive. The Holland Park area is now complete with new trees and an remarkable 10,000 plants creating a more vibrant green space. The Sunken Garden area has also been finished, featuring a new picnic bench and 8,000 additional plants.

Several major projects remain in progress. The Atlantic Pond upgrade continues with new benches and lighting being installed, plus construction of a timber deck bridge on the southern side near Supervalu Pairc Uí Chaoimh. Works to Barrington's Folly and the surrounding woodland paths are nearing completion, with woodland seeding and planting now finished.

These improvements represent a significant investment in one of Cork's premier family destinations. The park's location along the Marina offers stunning river views whilst providing easy access for families across the city and county.

The upgrades come at an ideal time as families seek outdoor activities during the summer months, with the enhanced facilities likely to draw even more visitors to this popular Cork attraction.
