Man Dies in House Fire on Cork's Northside

A man in his 60s has died following a house fire in Hollyhill in the early hours of this morning, with emergency services responding swiftly to the blaze in the residential area.

An Garda Síochána confirmed that the alarm was raised at approximately 12:45am on Monday, 21st July, when fire broke out at a property in Hollyhill on Cork's northside. Fire crews from both Anglesea Street and Ballyvolane stations responded to the emergency call.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a woman in her 60s had managed to escape the burning building and was being assisted by neighbours. However, upon entering the property using breathing apparatus, fire crews discovered a man unconscious inside the house.

The man, aged in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene despite emergency treatment efforts. The woman was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Cork City Fire Brigade successfully extinguished the blaze. The scene has been preserved and a technical examination will be conducted in due course to establish the cause of the fire.

A post-mortem examination is to be arranged for the deceased, and the local coroner has been notified. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

The tragedy has shocked the close-knit Hollyhill community, where neighbours were quick to assist when the alarm was first raised in the early hours of Monday morning.
