Man Arrested Following Incident in Mitchelstown
Gardaí clarify location following inaccurate reports.
Gardaí have clarified that an incident in Mitchelstown overnight occurred in a private residence, not in an IPAS centre as reported elsewhere, with a man in his 40s arrested following an assault that left another man requiring hospital treatment.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to an assault at a private residence in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork shortly after midnight on Saturday, 11 October 2025.
A man in his 40s was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
A second man, also in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and taken to a Garda station in Co. Cork, where he is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
An Garda Síochána issued a specific clarification this morning to address what they described as inaccurate media reporting and online commentary. The force emphasised that the incident took place in a private residence and not in an International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centre, contrary to some accounts circulating on social media and in certain media outlets.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
