Mallow Town Hall Theatre Project Advances as Construction Tender Enters Second Stage

Cork County Council has announced that the construction tender process for transforming Mallow's historic Town Hall into a modern theatre and arts centre has reached its second stage, bringing the long-awaited project closer to reality. Contractors shortlisted from the first stage are now being invited to submit their detailed tenders, with construction expected to begin in late February 2026.

The second stage tender was advertised on Thursday, 11th September, marking a significant milestone in the journey to breathe new life into the landmark building at the heart of Mallow. Shortlisted contractors have until 24th October 2025 to submit their proposals for delivering the project.

Following the tender return date, Cork County Council will assess the submissions before appointing the successful contractor. If all proceeds as planned, construction work is anticipated to commence in late February 2026, with the project expected to take between 15 and 18 months to complete.

The ambitious project will see Mallow Town Hall repurposed as a state-of-the-art theatre and multi-use arts centre, creating a vibrant cultural hub for North Cork. The development aims to invigorate Mallow town centre by fostering a lively cultural scene that will attract visitors, businesses and residents whilst revitalising local commerce and community engagement.

The transformation is being co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027, alongside Cork County Council. This significant investment reflects the commitment to cultural infrastructure across the region.

For Mallow residents who have watched the Town Hall stand idle in recent years, the progress represents a tangible step towards reclaiming a cherished piece of local heritage. The building's conversion into a modern arts venue promises to position Mallow as a cultural destination whilst preserving an important part of the town's architectural history.

The project stands as one of several major cultural infrastructure developments across Cork County, demonstrating ongoing investment in regional arts facilities and community spaces outside the city centre.
