Mallow Swimming Pool Set for Major €5.1 Million Makeover as Works Begin
Mallow Swimming Pool begins €5.1m renovation with new facilities and energy upgrades. 150,000 annual visitors to benefit from modern amenities by early 2026.

The much-loved Mallow Swimming Pool is diving into a comprehensive transformation that promises to make a splash with locals and visitors alike, as Cork County Council launches an ambitious €5.1 million renovation project.
The popular North Cork facility, which has been serving the community since 1996, will undergo a complete refurbishment designed to modernise its facilities whilst significantly boosting energy efficiency. Cumnor Construction Ltd has been awarded the construction contract, with work expected to wrap up early next year.
The extensive renovation will see the pool receive a brand new extension housing reception areas, administration offices, staff facilities and a visitor's room. The existing pool area will be completely refurbished alongside the installation of modern changing facilities and upgraded mechanical and electrical services throughout.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Joe Carroll said:
"Mallow Swimming Pool is a fantastic amenity for the people of Mallow and North Cork. It attracts approximately 150,000 visitors each year. The building was first opened in 1996 and these important works will ensure a safe, modern, energy efficient swimming pool facility is in place for the next generation of users. We look forward to welcoming back groups, clubs and individual swimmers as well as seeing the return of swimming lessons for all ages early in 2026."
The project has secured substantial grant funding, with €496,018 coming from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media under the Community Sport Facilities Fund. An additional €493,891 has been provided by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland under the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat, underlining the project's focus on sustainability.
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell added:
"This construction project will transform Mallow Swimming Pool for all users. The energy efficiencies may not be as visible but are an integral part of the upgrade works. Reducing the amount of energy needed to run and heat this amenity will help the Council to achieve its Climate Change targets."
With 150,000 annual visitors, the pool serves as a vital community hub for North Cork residents. The improvements to thermal efficiency and energy ratings represent a significant step towards more sustainable public facilities, whilst ensuring the venue remains accessible and welcoming for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
The renovation marks nearly three decades since the facility first opened its doors, promising to set the stage for another generation of swimmers, from toddlers taking their first strokes to seasoned athletes perfecting their technique.
