Major Water Main Repaired West of Glounthaune Following Overnight Work

Uisce Éireann crews have successfully repaired a significant burst water main west of Glounthaune village, with normal supply expected to return within hours following work completed late last night.

The major burst affected water supply to Glanmire East, Kilcoolishal, Caherlag, Glounthane and surrounding areas, with residents experiencing outages or reduced water pressure while emergency repairs were carried out.

Michael Bell, Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann said:

"We understand the inconvenience that unplanned outages can have. Crews worked yesterday and late last night to complete the work as quickly as possible."

Normal water supply typically returns within two to three hours following such repairs, though residents at the end of the network or on higher ground may experience longer delays as the system fully recharges.

The burst has also caused temporary water discolouration affecting customers across a wider area including Glounthane, Carrigtwohill, Cobh and the southern and eastern divisions of Cork city.

Residents experiencing discoloured water should run their cold kitchen tap for several minutes, with Uisce Éireann recommending up to 20 minutes to restore clear water. The water remains safe to drink once running clear.
