Major Water Main Burst on Bandon Road: Overnight Repairs Scheduled from 8pm Tonight

Uisce Éireann crews will work through the night repairing a significant burst water main on the N71 Bandon Road following an incident yesterday evening, with a traffic management plan in place from 8pm Friday until an estimated completion time of 5am Saturday.

Customers in Bandon Road, Waterfall and surrounding areas may experience supply disruptions during the overnight repair works. The burst, which occurred on Thursday evening, requires complex repairs due to its location and the high traffic volumes on the route.

A traffic management plan has been agreed with the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of repair crews, road users and the general public during the works.

Repair works are estimated to be completed by 5am on Saturday morning. Following completion, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to be restored to all affected customers. However, it may take longer for customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

To support customers during the disruption, Uisce Éireann has positioned a water tanker at St James Cemetery/Chetwynd. Customers are reminded to bring their own containers when collecting water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Michael Bell, Water Network Operations Manager, Uisce Éireann, said:

"Due to the nature of this burst and its location, a traffic management plan had to be agreed with the relevant authorities to prioritise the safety of the repair crew, road users, and the general public. Our crews are now scheduled to start repair works this evening from 8pm. Repair works are due to be completed by 5am; however, it may take a number of hours for water pressure to return to normal at higher elevations."
