Major Water Main Burst in Cork City: Mayfield Area Repairs Extended to Tuesday
Water supply to Mayfield and surrounding areas extended until 1pm Tuesday due to complex repairs. Alternative supply at Dunnes Stores Ballyvolane.
Homes and businesses in Mayfield and surrounding areas of Cork City will remain without water for a further 24 hours as repairs to a major burst water main prove more complex than initially anticipated.
Uisce Éireann crews are continuing efforts to restore supply following the significant burst, which has left customers in Mayfield, Corrib Lawn, Ballinderry Park, Shannon Lawn, Lagan Grove, Liffey Park, Glencree Crescent, Gweedore Avenue, Boyne Crescent, and surrounding areas without water.
Works are now expected to be completed by 1pm on Tuesday, 30 December.
Alternative water supplies remain available through bulk tankers stationed at Dunnes Stores Car Park in Ballyvolane. Customers are reminded to bring their own containers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
James Goulding, Operations Manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork City, said:
"We understand the inconvenience this extended outage is causing and we would like to assure customers that our crews are actively working to complete these complex repairs as quickly and safely as possible."
When water supply returns, customers may experience short-term discolouration. This is caused by sediment becoming dislodged from older cast iron pipes during work on the network. Running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes should restore the water to a clear colour. More information is available on the Uisce Éireann website.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours. Registration is available on the Uisce Éireann Vulnerable Customers page.
