Major Supermarket Brands Recall Bacon & Cabbage Dinners Over Listeria Risk

Five popular Irish supermarket chains have issued an urgent recall of ready-made Bacon & Cabbage Dinners due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a dangerous bacteria that can cause serious illness.

The affected products are sold under the Centra, SuperValu, Tesco, Good Food, and From The Farm brands. All pack sizes, batch codes, and use-by dates are included in the recall, which affects products with approval number 4008.

Food Safety Authority of Ireland:

"Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated Bacon & Cabbage Dinners. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale."

The bacteria can cause symptoms ranging from mild flu-like illness to severe gastrointestinal problems including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Pregnant women, babies, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems face particular risk of serious complications.

Health officials warn that symptoms may not appear immediately, with the incubation period averaging three weeks but potentially ranging from three to 70 days after consumption.

Retailers across Cork and Ireland have been instructed to remove all affected products from shelves immediately and display recall notices. Wholesalers and distributors must contact customers to ensure complete removal from the supply chain.

The recall affects all major grocery outlets where these convenient dinner options are typically sold. Customers who have purchased any of these products should not consume them and may return them to the point of purchase.

Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming these products should seek medical attention, particularly those in vulnerable groups.
